When I first heard the song Welcome Home by Radical Face, I was seriously amazed. I thought it was one of the best songs I have ever heard. But I really didn't listen to the lyrics. I just automatically fell in love with the melody. I kind of thought of it as a happy song at first. I never payed attention to the words, or what they meant until now. I noticed this is an extremely sad song.
I feel as if this song is telling a story using metaphors. At first, Alex Kane is trying to say that a traumatic event has screwed him up. He has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Going back to how this is a story using metaphors, Alex Kane is metaphorically and emotionally falling apart. He feels like he doesn't matter and everything horrible is attacking him at once. He just can't stand it. When Kane says, "Welcome home", I think that he means that he's used to this. It's as if he's returning back to his old ways of living life.
In conclusion, this song is very depressing. Alex Kane is using metaphors to explain his life story. I don't really think he means this as a life lesson. I think Kane is just trying to share what he is going through using art. Music is a form of art.
