Ms.Robbins showed us the lyrics to this song today. She then showed us this music video. After watching it, I felt like crying. The meaning of this song is just so deep. At first, when I read the lyrics over and annotated, I thought the song was about heart break and loneliness. After watching the video, the moral of it is pretty obvious. The other half of the world is having problems and we don't even know about them. One woman in the video said that she works 2 jobs 16 hours a day, 7 days a week to ear 200 dollars. That 200 dollars is to send her son to school. She then said that she cells oranges at night. She charges 2 cents for each orange. She might only sell 50 oranges. For so many oranges, she earns one dollar.
The rest of the video shows all these people in all different countries and what they go through in their every day lives. It shows what all of the regular costs of a professional music video is. The music video that they made for this song only cost 15 dollars to make. While a regular one would cost 150,000 dollars. Sarah McLachlan is basically trying to say that you don't always have to do something big to change someone's life.
