Life has to be fought for. I am going to fight.

In We Were In Auschwitz by Janusz Nel Siedlecki, Krystyn Olszewski and Tadeusz Borowski, the main character is a Polish man that is suffering in a concentration camp called Auschwitz in during World War II. He says this one line during a really hard time when he is being lead to Mauthausen.

"Life has to be fought for. I am going to fight."

I think that this line is simple to understand. People have said it before, and people have heard it in many places. The main character is put in a concentration camp for being a white man that is hated by Hitler. In these concentration camps, the Germans put people (not just Polish people, but French people, Jews, etc.) in these places where these innocent people were abused, tortured, and even killed. All because a man named Adolf Hitler did not respect others.

Basically, what the main character is trying to say is that it's not easy being a prisoner in Auschwitz. Being beaten every day for not following directions obviously isn't easy to deal with every day. These prisoners had to work for the German soldiers, obeying everything they would say, or else they would beat them or shoot them. They'd whip them. The main character has to fight for his life in order to stay alive in this camp.
