Romeo and Juliet (Baz Luhrmann)

After watching the Baz Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet, I suddenly became extremely interested in Shakespeare. I'm now reading the book and I see that it is not the same at all. Baz Luhrmann made Shakespeare more modern. Shakespeare uses much more complicated language in the book. Baz Luhrmann did use most of the quotes from the book, though.

In one of the scenes in the movie, Romeo killed Tybalt. At the exact moment where Romeo killed him, a thunderstorm began. When Tybalt then fell into the water, the camera automatically zoomed in on Romeo's face. The sound muted completely. All you heard was when Romeo dropped his gun to the floor. I think that Baz Luhrmann decided to do this to exaggerate the dramatic effect and to make the scene seem very powerful and emotional.

In conclusion, Baz Luhrmann used a lot of sound in the movie, but did an extremely good job with this specific scene.
